Dr. Prakash K. Paudel, PhD

Dr. Prakash K. Paudel is a conservation biologist and environmental scientist. He currently leading Society for Conservation Biology Nepal and Conservation Nepal, both institutions dedicated for biodiversity conservation and research in Nepal. He led a team of young resarchers working in Nepal who were trained abroad as a PhD, and established the Kathmandu Institute of Applied Sciences (KIAS) where he served as founding president and as its Executive Director until 2023. He discharged all roles and handed over and focussed on new venture of establishing institutional infrastructure in Nepal.

Dr. Paudel completed his Ph.D. in Biology of Ecosystems at Jihočeská Univerzita in the Czech Republic in 2012 and worked as researcher in Global Change Research Center, Czech Republic. Dr. Paudel's extensive research portfolio focuses on critical areas such as the meta-population structure of mammals in fragmented landscapes, human-wildlife conflict, conservation planning, ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction and climate change. His scholarly contributions include a substantial number of peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and a comprehensive book on wildlife biology and conservation. These works are widely recognized and respected in the scientific community​. Dr. Paudel was associated with the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology in Lalitpur, Nepal.

Dr. Paudel's influence extends beyond research; he is actively involved in shaping national science policy in Nepal. He authored several research papers on Nepal's research environment. His dedication to conservation and environmental science is evident not only in his professional accomplishments but also in his personal interests.

An avid traveler and trekker, Dr. Paudel seamlessly integrates his love for nature with his professional work, providing a holistic approach to conservation efforts​. His leadership and his extensive research have significantly advanced the understanding of conservation biology, contributing to both academic and practical applications in the field. Dr. Paudel's work continues to inspire and drive conservation initiatives, making him a pivotal figure in environmental science and policy.
